Easy Steps to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

May 27, 2015 | Pollution, Recycling

Here at Western Tire Recycling, we are concerned about how to reuse materials and reduce our carbon footprint. We recycle large tires into rubber tire chips and dependable tire water tanks so they don’t end up in landfills. We know that reducing your carbon footprint sounds like a daunting task, so we’ve put together a list of simple ways to make it easier.

1. Reuse Plastic Grocery Bags

How many times do we come home from the grocery store and promptly throw those plastic bags away once we’re done with them? There are actually lots of great ways you can reuse those bags. For example, you can use them as trash can liners for small trash cans or use them as dirty laundry bags when you are traveling. Try to see how you can reuse your grocery bags instead of throwing them out immediately.

2. Turn off the Lights

There are many times when we walk out of a room and leave the lights on. Try to make a conscious effort to turn off the light when you are walking out of the room. Not only will this help the environment, but it will also help your electricity bill!

3. Turn off the Water

All the time, people leave the sink water running when they are brushing their teeth, or washing their face. It only takes a little extra effort to turn the water off while you are doing these activities.

4. Use a Reusable Water Bottle or Thermos

So many plastic water bottles and coffee cups are thrown away every single day. Imagine how much waste we could save if we drank with reusable bottles and thermoses.

5. Go Paperless

Did you know that many bank statements, credit card statements, and utility bills can viewed online instead of sent by mail? Check your accounts to see if you can switch to paperless today.

6. Say No to Receipts, Unless You Really Need Them

So many times our receipts go straight to the trash, without us giving them another look. Many times at the gas pump or the ATM, you can choose not to have a receipt printed. Many retailers are also opting for email receipts instead of printed receipts.

7. Keep Your Car Tires Inflated

Keeping your tires at the proper pressure can improve gas mileage, and improve the life of your tires.

As you can see, reducing your carbon footprint doesn’t have to be hard. Try to pick a few items off of the list that you can start implementing today. Don’t forget to contact Western Tire Recyclers with your OTR Tire Recycling needs.
